Off-topic: Communities are printing their own currencies

USA Today has a report about communities that have begun to print their own money to encourage people to buy from local businesses.

The stores band together, print some money, and then sell that money at a discount, like $0.95 on the dollar. The customers can then spend the currency at full face value in the stores that accept it.
