Melynda sent in this link to a story about Cuba. From the description:

1976 jour­neys through the ghet­tos, farm­lands and lifestyles of Cuba as scenes build and unfold blur­ring the dis­tinc­tion between the pro­pa­ganda and the every­day real­ity of strug­gling to sur­vive. The con­cept of the video was to cap­ture the flair of the Latin influ­ence in the song “1976” by RJD2.

The video is a slideshow with some great Ken Burns-y effects that make the pho­tos really pop.

    I love this video. A note of clar­i­fi­ca­tion though, the Ken Burns effect is sim­ply pan­ning and zoom­ing on a photo. The effect you see in this video is referred to as the “3d effect” or “kids in the pic­ture effect”. We exper­i­mented with it a lit­tle. It involves seper­at­ing the photo into trans­par­ent lay­ers then using spe­cial­ized edit­ing soft­ware to move those lay­ers independently.
